Batmom, thanks so much for your blog. My daughter is becoming Bat Mitzvah today at a Conservative synagogue in Massachusetts. (Although our synagogue is Conservative, our personal practice tends toward Reform, thus the fact that I am reading blogs while walking on a treadmill on Shabbat.) I know our rabbi has had many conversations with my daughter this year about the meaning of becoming a Jewish adult, but I feel that I have yet to add my 2-cents’ worth. You have inspired me to do so.

BTW, I love the “Batmom” appellation. I think I’ll use that today.

There are some interesting ideas here. I’d like to add one of my own. I make Customized Bar/Bat Mitzvah albums with papercut illustrations of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebrant and all their favourite hobbies, activities, pets, favourite team etc. on the front. They can be used at the Simcha for everyone to write in or as a keepsake album for photos afterwards. They always seem to well received (both here in Israel and abroad).
